Cell phones are an interesting invention. The whole concept of being able to communicate with anybody else with a phone, wherever you happen to be (within signal) via either talking or sending a text/picture message is seriously amazing, but it's something we all do everyday (or most of us, anyway).
In my Survey of Human Communications class, we talked about cell phones the other day. My professor made it very clear that she felt that they're overused and making the new generation a generation that won't learn how to properly communicate with others face to face. She thinks that soon we'll only be communicating through computers, that work interviews will all be over webcam, that instead of eating food with someone you'll just text them to chat instead, and all that sort of thing.
I agree with her that we do use them a lot, cell phones and computers. I'm totally guilty, I text almost constantly sometimes. But I disagree with a lot of what she says; I text mostly to my two best friends who both live far away from me, and when I text someone I live near here at college, I am usually either too busy to stop due to class/work/etc. and need to ask a question or whatever. I use my cell phone ALL THE TIME but it's surprising how little it takes away from my face to face communication. I don't think that I am a case that should worry about losing that, I don't see it happening and I use my cell phone as a tool, not as a wall between me and people.
What do you think? Do you use your cell phone too much?
